Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation's success depends on the dedication and talents of thousands of volunteers. People often volunteer with us because they feel a personal commitment to protecting and restoring our basin, so that all of us can enjoy it. Motivated by this valuable feeling of ownership, volunteers get involved in a variety of fun, interesting events that we hold throughout the year. Learn more

Many of these events are annual, including our Back to the Beach Festival, Beach Sweep, Fishing Rodeo, Golf Classic, and Northshore "Let's Make Waves" Party.

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation staff also welcomes those who wish to volunteer in our office. Office volunteers regularly offer their time and talents throughout the year. Their assistance is invaluable. Learn more


New Canal Lighthouse

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation rebuilt and opened the New Canal Lighthouse to the public in April of 2013. The lighthouse had been destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. The newly constructed lighthouse includes a museum, education center and gift shop. (Admission fee is charged.)

Come experience how the history of a light, a lake and a coast has blended together. Visit Louisiana's only working lighthouse containing a museum open to the public.

LPBF's Education Staff offer group presentations by appointment. Call the Education Department at 504-836-2238 or email to schedule a presentation or group activity at this historic site.

Directions: From I-10, take the West End Blvd exit. Follow West End, cross over the light at Robert E. Lee Blvd. and the lighthouse will be on your left. Park across the street. From I-610, exit Canal Blvd. (EXIT 1A), continue north to Lakeshore Dr., turn left for 1/3 mile. The lighthouse will be on the right at the curve. Park across the street.
