Lessons on the Lake: An Educator's Guide to the Pontchartrain Basin (2nd edition)
Lessons on the Lake is the activity guide you've been waiting for! A variety of educational strategies based on "multiple intelligences" were developed to challenge the creative and higher level thinking skills of students. These include Verbal/Linguistic, Visual/Spatial, Logical/Mathematical, Musical, Bodily/Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalist.

This resource is full of activities that provide students with hands-on opportunities to experience and appreciate the wonders of the Basin. It also teaches skills to identify environmental concerns, make decisions, solve problems, and acquire a strong sense of stewardship. The second edition of Lessons on the Lake was released in Spring 2002 and is available to teachers in the Pontchartrain Basin free of charge.

Environmental Atlas of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin
What's under the Lake? Where are redfish found? Answers to these and many other questions are now available in a multidisciplinary source of information on the Lake and its surrounding 4,700 square-mile Basin. The Atlas covers geology, land use, habitat, biological resources, and water quality. This book is available in public and university libraries, and is out on CD for private citizens. Pontchartrain Stories Video
Take your students to Bayou Lacombe, Manchac Swamp and New Orleans in one afternoon! "Pontchartrain Stories" is the Foundation's most recent video production. It takes viewers on a 20-minute trip around our very own Pontchartrain Basin and introduces students to ordinary people whose lives have been touched and changed by Lake Pontchartrain and its rivers and bayous. We've got the goods! The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation distributes a wide variety of Pontchartrain-related educational literature including newsletters, brochures, maps, fact sheets, bumper stickers, window decals, and curriculum suggestions for Basin schools.

New Canal Lighthouse

The New Canal Lighthouse built in the 1890's was destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina & Rita. We are working to assure The New Canal Lighthouse's full restoration.
