About the Cookbook

WHAT-
On behalf of junior guard Lauren Mioton, a New Orleans-
area native, and the Purdue women’s basketball
program, the BOILERmaker NETwork will be
handling orders for the Live to Eat
Cookbook. The recipes compiled in the
cookbook are from Purdue players, coaches,
alumnae and fans. Funds raised from the sale
of the cookbook will benefit the Lake
Pontchartrain Basin Foundation to aid wetland
preservation and restoration.
WHY –
Hurricane Damage.
This Foundation was established in 1989 to
restore the health of the lake and its rivers
and to protect the natural habitat of the
Basin. Preliminary estimates suggested that
in excess of 40 square miles of wetlands were
lost after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This
exceeds by 130% the amount of wetlands the Basin lost
to natural erosion processes from 1990 to 2000. As
wetlands provide the first line of defense for hurricane
storm surges and help to minimize flooding, now more
than ever the community of southeast Louisiana must
focus on restoring these critical coastal resources and
protecting those wetlands that remain.
