We need your help to preserve our coast and our homes.
Please tell President Bush that the MRGO Must Go now.
The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO, commonly called “Mister Go”) was constructed in late
1950’s and early 60’s as a navigation shortcut between New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. The
MRGO damaged or destroyed in excess of 20,000 acres of wetlands that served as a natural hurricane barrier. After Katrina, Congress directed the Corps of Engineers to develop a comprehensive closure
plan for the MRGO that included the restoration of wetlands. Although the Corps has committed
to plugging the channel with a rock dam, no commitments have been made to restore our coastal
wetlands - our natural lines of defense.
We need your help to ensure that:
- The work to plug the channel begins immediately; and
- The Corps commits to restoring the MRGO-damaged wetlands that historically protected New Orleans and St. Bernard.
Please take action now to ensure MRGO really goes:
- Write to the President. Visit www.MRGOmustGO.org to send a personalized email to the White House to make sure this critical work gets done.
- Raise public awareness. Visit www.MRGOmustGO.org to find locations near you that are
distributing free bumper stickers and yard signs.
