Basin Bulletin
December 20, 2006

The twelve months of 2006 have been some of the busiest in Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s history.  We continue to collect and provide more water quality information than any other region on the Gulf Coast.  Our habitat program is proactively promoting sustainable, smart growth and preservation of sensitive areas like stressed cypress swamps.  Recommendations developed by our coastal program have been adopted by the State of Louisiana and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as the cornerstone projects for coastal restoration below New Orleans. We have begun work to rebuild the New Canal Lighthouse. Outreach and public visibility could be the greatest yet in the LPBF’s history.  It has been a very busy and productive year.

My thanks to our tireless staff for their frequent early mornings and late nights, their quality work, dedication, and “we can do it” attitudes.  Thanks to our Board for their sincere interest in fulfilling our mission and thoughtful guidance.  And thanks to each of our volunteers and supporters for making Pontchartrain’s restoration a possible; you’re wonderful.  Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, fun 2007.
